Disobeying God is a serious matter. But have you ever wondered what was so bad about eating the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil? How could doing that lead to the fall of all mankind? And when God told Adam and Eve not to eat of that tree, was He testing them, just to see whether they would obey Him? His righteousness required Him to punish them and banish them from the garden. Her commandment is actually a loving warning. Certainly his disobedience is a problem.
This is very similar to the situation in the garden with Adam and Eve. The bigger problem was what they took in and the effect it had on them. And because Adam represented all mankind, what happened there affected every human being. God commanded Adam and Eve not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in order to protect them. He said that if they ate of that tree, they would die, because that tree represented Satan , the source of death. But in the garden was another tree—the tree of life. The tree of life represented God , the source of life.
This was the tree God wanted man to partake of to receive Him, the divine life. Instead, God wanted man to use his free will to choose Him. It was up to him.
The Original Sin
God was honest with Adam and Eve, commanding them not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. For my next point, the literalist Christian concept of the soul is woefully inadequate. Brahman is Atman and Atman is Brahman. Unfortunately, religions tend to take one or more literal read: shallow surface meanings as the truth. The Atman is a perfect example of what the serpent represents. The Atman is the inner witness, your wisdom and conscience, your gut feeling, the deepest, truest You that is God.
Though the church and history chose to vilify Eve as the source of the Fall from grace and original sin, she was simply fulfilling a role of woman: birth. Ignorance literally is bliss especially if we talk about ignorance in Buddhist terms, which ties directly into this discussion; make sure to out check out my other article. Check it out.
At the world level, this is where we find people who identify as citizens of the world such as myself , seeing themselves as members of this crazy little group called humanity rather than primarily identifying as the member of a particular country.

The chain is inclusive. You can still be part of your family, part of your peer group, and be American or whatever other nationality, but ultimately you identify with humanity itself.
Once we go beyond that, we eventually progress toward identifying with all life and then all of existence. Notice that the One which became the two which became the many seems to be going back to the One. What does this have to do with the Garden?
A lot. So, God placed a cherub with a fiery sword as a guardian to stop anyone from entering the Garden. A threshold guardian. But why would God place a guardian?

He floods the whole damn planet at a later point. I mean, He created everything so he can just destroy it! I think you get my point. The Garden paradise represents the blissful ignorance of a new born, as well as the undifferentiated state of the One before the two.

If the cherub is a threshold guardian, what is it guarding? The Garden itself? We know the garden is essentially blissful ignorance, so why would you want to get back in?
